Quantum Optical Systems Engineer
Join the Redwire team in developing and fielding end-to-end innovative mission critical space system solutions for next generation space architecture. At Redwire, you will work closely with customers from concept development through mission operations to ensure mission success.
Function
Redwire is seeking for a Quantum Optical Systems Engineer to support our satellite missions related to Quantum Communication.
We are looking for a team-oriented, self-driven individual with a keen technical mind and creative aptitude, to perform requirements analysis, feasibility studies, define and manage subsystem interfaces.
You will define optical quantum key based systems & component requirements /specifications, integration plans, and test procedures & perform system-level estimates of optical performance and support system performance simulations.
Responsiblities
- Perform requirements analysis, feasibility studies, define and manage subsystem interfaces, error budgets, requirements flow-down and allocation.
- Define optical quantum key based systems & component requirements /specifications, integration plans, and test procedures.
- Tackle quantum communication (QKD links with trusted node).
- Address different laser techniques – laser propagation through atmosphere and fiber optics.
- Follow-up/coordinate the design of complete electro-optical systems at our suppliers, incl. component specifications and vendor selection.
- Work with external vendors to fabricate custom optical devices meeting specified requirements.
- Work with electrical and mechanical engineers to debug systems and evaluate performance.
- Tackle validation testing and calibration requirements.
- Support payload MAIT activities. Define OGSE.
- Coordinate and perform all optical payload activities during the launch campaign and in-orbit operations.
- Assess the in-orbit performance during LEOP and in-orbit commissioning phase.
- Characterize optical device performance relative to design goals and broader system requirements.
- Perform system-level estimates of optical performance and support system performance simulations.
Profile
- Masters’ degree in Quantum Optics, Physics, Photonics or equivalent field.
- +5 years’ experience with complex imaging systems and optical systems engineering.
- Solid understanding of optical systems, coherence, laser and non-laser sources, measurement techniques, quantum single photon optics.
- Imaging systems expertise, specifically with camera’s, displays or electro optical systems.
- Experience in tolerance simulations and manufacturing.
- Ability to architect, specify, and test complex optical systems.
- Understanding of performance testing and validation of optical systems and components.
- Knowledge in, or experience with optic design and simulation tools (e.g. Zemax) for imaging system design and analysis.
- Knowledge of image processing and software is preferred.
Offer
- You’ll not only get to work in a well-known space company offering flexibility, work-life balance, and an open and friendly working environment, but you will also become one of the privileged engineers that can say some of the hardware they helped built is actually orbiting Earth!
- Possibility to grow towards a senior/principal engineering role (Technical expertise) or to a Team Lead role (Technical Management).
- Permanent and full time contract.
