Summary
We have a current opportunity for a Staff Supplier Quality Engineer located at our facility in Goleta, CA. In this senior-level role you will be responsible for assuring new and existing suppliers and their supplied products meet site and program and quality requirements. This position supports both the Quality and Procurement teams by assuring supplier quality performance and maintaining good supplier relationships.  
Responsibilities
  • Leadership of small, site-level, supplier quality engineering team.
  • Guide and check the work of less experienced workers.
  • Team delegations, assignments, accountability, measurement/metrics, and reporting.
  • Work with little guidance and decide and create ways to solve problems, provide solutions to a variety of problems, know the goals but can choose the way to get there.
  • Work under general direction, independently determine and develop approaches to solutions, results are reviewed upon completion for meeting objectives.
  • Quality Management Systems ownership of supplier quality assurance processes & procedures.
  • Review specifications to assist in proper supplier selection.
  • Initial and ongoing supplier quality assessments, audits, scoring, and certification.
  • Review program requirements to assign the proper quality clauses to purchase orders during approval process.
  • Conduct supplier source inspections and pre-ship reviews.
  • Process supplier advance deviation requests.
  • Proactive and reactive supplier development, improvements, and corrections based on supplier performance metrics and supplier re-evaluation process.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot supplier related product or production issues. 
  • Process supplier nonconformances through the nonconforming material process.
  • Process supplier corrective action requests, ensure adequacy of supplier root cause analysis and corrective and preventative actions, follow-up to ensure implementation and effectiveness of actions.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and program personnel on supplier quality related issues.
  • occasional support for other projects and programs as determined by the Quality Manager.
 Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Quality Assurance:
  • Ability to work independently, as a member of a team and to lead teams.
  • Collaborate with program managers, engineers, and manufacturing to develop and implement quality assurance plans and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Monitor and report on quality performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Conduct internal audits and participate in external audits to ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Actions:
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts for product and process non-conformities.
  • Develop and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address identified issues.
  • Use data-driven methodologies to identify trends and eliminate the root causes of recurring quality problems.
Customer Quality Support and Communications:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality concerns and issues.
  • Provide timely and effective communication to customers regarding quality-related matters.
  • Prepare and present quality reports and documentation to customers and stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and other departments to implement process improvements.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in quality assurance and apply them to Redwire Space's quality management system.
 
Ideal Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality Management, or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) field and minimum of 7 years of experience in supplier quality engineering, preferably in the aerospace or space technology industry, or 10+ years relevant experience.
  • Deep and broad knowledge of supplier quality assurance and related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, tools, and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).
  • Proven experience in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Knowledge of common inspection tools and how to use them.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, including GD&T.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Adaptability and flexibility with evolving work priorities & challenges
  • Proficient in using quality management software and tools.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to travel to suppliers (up to 25%) within the region / area, occasionally out-of-state
  • US Citizen or US Person as defined by ITAR. 
Desired Skills:
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification.
  • Experience with aerospace technology, products, and processes. 
  • Solar panels / cells, composites, electrical harnesses, and machined parts experience.
  • Deltek Costpoint / TIPQA ERP system experience.
Pay Range
$121,000 - $156,000
 
How We Determine What We Pay (Compensation Philosophy)
Redwire determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for our locations throughout the US. We will evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index, in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will be considered for higher pay.
