Summary
We have an opportunity for a Staff Systems Engineer at our facility in Longmont, CO. In this role, you will be responsible for the development of architectures, designing new systems and see them through the development life cycle. You will interface with customers, subcontractors, and the project team to guide the technical development of the space hardware systems. You will lead risk management, integrated test planning, technical performance measurement management, and lifecycle baseline. You will learn and be supported by a great Systems team and you will collaborate with other amazing engineers with a wide breadth of spaceflight experiences.
As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, technicians and specialists, you will develop cutting edge space flight hardware solutions. Many projects are innovative and have a short development lifecycle enabling you to see the outcome of your design work. You will bring your space systems engineering experience and help the team develop innovative RF systems.
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to making a difference to project definition and execution for a spaceflight system. We are seeking someone to take ownership of a project and help enable the engineering team to be successful.
Responsibilities
- Developing and owning architectures based on customer requirements
- Translating architecture into a design and build plan
- Participate in the design, assembly, and test space hardware systems
- Ensure the delivered hardware meets internal and external stakeholder expectations
- Have the desire to build trust and respect within the team and with the customer and contribute to an inclusive culture
- Manage and execute gated design and operational reviews
- Develop and mature the Concept of Operations
- Solid background developing technical work plans for new/continuous product development, including estimation of required resources
- Develop, review, and assess verification artifacts such as test plans, test reports, analysis reports, inspection reports, and help provide guidance on the appropriateness to the system goals
- Ensure all aspects of the system perform as intended through the product lifecycle
- Act as a creative problem solver between multiple and sometimes conflicting interests in order to make sure the system as a whole is optimized, while ensuring internal and external stakeholders’ needs are being represented
- Interact with external customers, subcontractors, and the project technical team to guide technical development through strong communication and collaboration.
Ideal Experience
- BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent, Master’s Degree may substitute for two years less of applicable experience.
- 8+ years designing and manufacturing hardware systems ideally those for space applications.
- Experience developing RF hardware or systems

Experience performing space system level analysis and presenting standard technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, etc.).
- Extensive experience working/communicating with customers to manage expectations and project scope
- Experience with leading a team of engineers through a design, development and test lifecycle
- Knowledge of current systems engineering and integration tools and methodologies
- Experience with developing Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis, Root Cause Analysis and supporting early phase Analysis definition
- Experience with systems engineering tools such as Jama or DOORS
- Demonstrated experience writing requirement and establishing appropriate verification criteria.
- Good communication skills, ability to work effectively in teams, demonstrated execution and coordination skills
- Team leadership experience

- Strong experience developing space flight hardware and comprehensive understanding of space design best practices and lessons learned
- Big picture mentality and ability to help others maintain a strong technical vision of the end-product
- Experience writing subcontract technical specifications.
- Demonstrated experience with risk management activities and strategies
- Background in composites design, analysis, and manufacturing

Redwire determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for our locations throughout the US. We will evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index, in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.
For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
