Redwire Space Missions LLC has an opportunity for a Systems Engineer, Lead located at our facility in Albuquerque, NM to support new business pursuits as well as the development of high-quality solutions for small satellite programs. In this role you will support all phases of the space systems development process including requirements definition, system interfaces, system design and analysis, integration and test, verification and validation as required.
 
Responsibilities
  • Serve as technical leader to the business to develop mission concepts and spacecraft development.
  • Develop models and simulations in support of digital engineering capability demonstrations, space product concept development, proposals, and system design and evaluation.
  • Provide thought leadership within Redwire, with our partners, and across industry
  • Translate high-level customer objectives, business cases, architectures, and spacecraft development strategies into system requirement specifications and work across engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements.
  • Efficiently develop cost and schedule competitive technical solutions – drawing on internal and partner expertise.
  • Perform various analyses to optimize system and/or subsystem architecture.
  • Serve as customer interface and support for business development activities and to understand and shape requirements.
  • Participate in system conceptual design and documentation of design concepts.
  • Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff.
  • Recognize and mitigate technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the program team.
 
Ideal Experience
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience with a Bachelors, or MS and 6+ years, or PhD and 3+ years, with experience in the space industry.
  • Must have a well-rounded systems-thinking approach with demonstrated technical leadership.
  • US citizenship is required with ability to acquire DOD Security Clearance.
 
Desired Skills
  • M.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with Spacecraft system or subsystem development.
  • Experience serving in project and/or technical leadership roles (e.g., IPT Lead, Project Lead, CAM, etc.)
  • Experience with space systems engineering including an understanding of space vehicle design, space system architecture development, and space missions and operations development.
  • Extensive understanding of interdisciplinary systems engineering challenges, with a strong ability to see the “big picture” in complex projects.
  • Exceptional skill in analyzing requirements and data to quickly understand problems, define solution spaces, communicate actionable options, and recommend clear paths forward.
  • Proficient in managing competing requirements, balancing trade-offs, and optimizing solutions based on project-specific priorities.
  • Experience with NASA or DoD lifecycle reviews (e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR).
  • Experience with JAMA/DOORS Requirements management tools.
  • Proficient with industry MCAD tools, such as Solidworks.
  • Proficient with model & simulation tools, such as MATLAB.
  • Proficient with MBSE tools, such as Cameo.
  • Experience with Ansys STK (Systems Tool Kit)
  • Ability to travel - an average of 10-15% travel may be required.
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance.
